33 °C, sunshine, a superb open air location and Ben Howard on stage. Sounds like a sureshot, doesn’t it? Well, let’s see…
First of all I’ve to say, it was a nice concert, but not a gig for the ages. We arrived at the Zitadelle about 19:15, when the support act John Smith was allready playing. After we grabbed something to eat and some beers, he had just finished his set, so I can’t say anything about him.
After a little break Ben Howard went on stage and started with “Everything”, “Black Flies” and “Old Pine”. The two best parts of the show were “Only Love” followed by “The Wolves” and the last two songs “Keep Your Head Up” and “The Fear”. Maybe Ben should have saved one of these for the encore, because in my opinion the three bonus songs were not that strong.
Summarized it was a nice concert. Ben Howard is a great singer/songwriter and the whole open air gig gave me a nice festival feeling.
